These songs were recorded live at the Catacombs Coffee Bar in Manchester probably on Sunday 11 May 1969 (gauged from the line-up and from the fact that introductions suggest it was a hot day and the group had just played at Walton prison in the afternoon). It was almost 6 months after Joe Roberts, the new drummer, had joined the group. The original tape recording of this was probably made by Edwin Brain, a helper at the Catacombs, and contains an introduction by Ian Knox, a frequent speaker at the Catacombs, and at other venues with the group. This recording is from a shellac disc which had been made from the tape (the original tape has been lost). Given that, the recording quality is reasonably good. An MP3 download is available for each track. The words of all the songs on this CD are available on this web site, and there is also a page of the chords used. |
